Camarillo woman, 34, admits embezzling from engineering firm

A Camarillo woman accused of embezzling more than $184,000 from a local engineering firm where she worked pleaded guilty this week, authorities said.

Alexis Ann Pate, 34, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of felony grand theft and admitted she stole more than $100,000 from M3 Civil Inc., the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced in a statement.

Pate used multiple schemes to embezzle money from Camarillo-based M3 Civil from April 2005 to January 2011, prosecutors said.

Company owners discovered the thefts after Pate was fired, prosecutors said.

Victim of Bus Stop Collision Passes Away

PHOENIX – A woman who was hit by a truck while waiting at a bus stop has died as a result of her injuries.

It happened Nov. 21 at 44th St and Indian School Rd. 47-year-old Joanie M. Korb was waiting for the bus when a white pickup truck made a wide turn and hit her.

Korb was taken off life support and died Thursday night.

Ryan Matthew Korte, 33, was booked into jail for aggravated assault and two counts of leaving the scene of an injury accident. Police say he will now face additional charges.

Toxicology results are pending.

 

Woman found injured in Cushing dies

The woman, whose name was not released, was found behind a pet store in the 100 block of West Broadway by a worker. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died. OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said the woman is believed to be in her 40s.

Cushing police and OSBI investigators arrested Benjamin Littlesun about 7 p.m. Friday night near the Wilshire Inn in Cushing.

Littlesun, no age or hometown given, originally was arrested on an unrelated warrant. After being questioned by investigators he was booked on a murder complaint.

He is being held at the Payne County jail.

Brown said the medical examiner will have to determine how the woman died, but there were “obvious signs of trauma” to her body.

‘Honour’ crimes against women in UK rising rapidly, figures show

The number of women and girls in the UK suffering violence and intimidation at the hands of their families or communities is increasing rapidly, according to figures revealing the nationwide scale of “honour” abuse for the first time.

Statistics obtained under the Freedom of Information Act about such violence – which can include threats, abduction, acid attacks, beatings, forced marriage, mutilation and murder – show that in the 12 police force areas for which comparable data was available, reports went up by 47% in just a year.

The figures, shared with the Guardian by the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (Ikwro), also reveal that a small number of forces – including four in Scotland – are still not collecting data on how often such violence occurs.

Man hit by gun, shots fired in robbery

A Syracuse man was hit in the face with a gun during an early morning robbery on Saturday.  Syracuse police say the 45 year old has minor injuries, after having cash stolen just before 5:30am in the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue, on the Syracuse South Side.  Investigators say the suspect also fired at least one round from the handgun, though the bulets did not hit anyone.

The suspect is a black man, 5’7″ with short hair, who got away in a gray-colored sedan.  Anyone who can help with the investigation can call Syracuse Police, 442-5222.
