In Arizona, whenever a parent asks the court to determine child custody or visitation, both parties will be required to attend a Parent Education Program. The family court judge has discretion to order parental participation in the program in other cases, too, including a modification or enforcement of child support, custody or parenting time.

In Maricopa County, the course is known as the Parent Information Program. It doesn’t matter whether the child is the natural offspring of the parent or adopted, participation in the program is mandatory whenever there is an unemancipated minor in the family law case.

Purpose of the Program.

A child’s life is profoundly affected by the family court proceedings which will restructure his or her family.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick wants to go back to state prison, eyes July parole Tweet Share Share close Google Buzz Digg Stumble Upon Fark Share Email Print Kwame KilpatrickIncarcerated felon and former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is returning to Detroit this morning, where he’s expected to seek his transfer from federal to state custody and lay the groundwork for his eventual parole.

Kilpatrick’s attorney tells Fox 2 he expects a federal magistrate will grant Kilpatrick a personal bond on federal charges, allowing him to transfer back to state prison so the parole board can review his case prior to a possible release.

Kilpatrick currently is serving a 14-month to five-year state sentence for violating the terms of his probation on obstruction of justice charges related to his text-message scandal. Find more info…

Long Beach’s Jenny Oropeza remembered with Chavez Park honor

LONG BEACH — Jenny Oropeza and Cesar Chavez are now linked in perpetuity.

And that’s something Oropeza’s widower, Tom Mullins, says would have meant the world to his wife.

Long Beach’s 10th annual Cesar Chavez day celebration, which honors the late civil and labor rights leader, had an added element Thursday when the community center at Chavez Park was dedicated in honor of Oropeza.

The official dedication now permanently pairs the two Latino leaders.

Geraldine Ferraro, first woman VP candidate, dies at 75

BOSTON — Geraldine Ferraro, who in 1984 became the first woman vice presidential candidate on a major party ticket, died Saturday in Boston, a family spokeswoman said.

Ferraro died at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was being treated for blood cancer. She died just before 10 a.m., said Amanda Fuchs Miller, a family friend who worked for Ferraro in her 1998 Senate bid and was acting as a spokeswoman for the family.

A three-term congresswoman from the New York City borough of Queens, Ferraro catapulted to national prominence in 1984 when she was chosen by presidential nominee Walter Mondale to join his ticket against incumbents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
