Attorney General Eric Holder reads from Oh! The Places Youll Go. He is joined by Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education and basketball ledgend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In an effort to combat childhood obesity and summer learning loss, the Department of Justice joined the U.S. Department of Education to address young audiences throughout the nation as part of the campaign.

Earlier today, Attorney General Eric Holder participated in the first  summer enrichment event at the Department of Educations Lyndon Baines Johnson building in Washington, D.C.

Salt Lake Tribune Follows up Walmart Gun Origin Story

The Salt Lake Tribune published Monday a followup to the story we wrote regarding the origin of the gun used by a Utah man at the Port Orchard Walmart in January.

The sale of a gun used by a felon to kill a 13-year-old Utah girl and wound two sheriff’s deputies in Washington state earlier this year highlights the ambiguities associated with private firearms transactions.

Anthony A. Martinez already had at least three felony convictions when he purchased the .40-caliber Glock from a former Utah police cadet, according to Utah court records and documents released by prosecutors in Kitsap, Wash.

The felonies prevented Martinez from buying a gun from a licensed dealer. But

Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert affirms bid for U.S. Senate

FORT WORTH — The rest of the lineup remains in flux, but Tom Leppert says he will definitely be on the Republican primary ballot for U.S. Senate next year.

The former Dallas mayor was in town to speak to the Republican Forum at the Fort Worth Club. He devoted most of a 40-minute exchange to economic issues. But he also said he hopes to join the Senate, address a few key tricky issues such as tax reform and entitlements, and then leave.

“You’re not going to see me beyond two terms — there’s no chance of that,” he said in an interview after the speech.

Several Republicans have indicated interest in running to replace Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Two early potential candidates have since switched to other races, and Lt. Gov.

Troy-based foreclosure firm implicated in massive ‘robo-signing’ case

Orlans Associates, a foreclosure firm located in Troy, is accused of robo-signing, essentially forging signatures on foreclosure documents.

July 8, Michigan Messenger: Robo-signing is when a bank, mortgage company or foreclosure company has multiple people sign documents with the name of the person who is supposed to sign those documents and then has them notarized as having been signed by that person. In the case of Orlans, the signer was supposed to be attorney Marshall Isaacs, but he has now been implicated in two states for having had others sign his name and notarize that he did so.Kevin Harvey, first assistant clerk for the Southern Essex District Register of Deeds in Massachusetts, says a private mortgage fraud investigator brought the robo-signing to the attention of his boss, John OBrien.
