The partially decomposed remains of a man found Sunday in a remote area of Dunns Creek State Park have been identified as 37-year-old Dwight S. McDaniel of Satsuma.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said it’s an apparent suicide. McDaniel, a registered sex offender, had been missing since Jan. 31. It was initially thought he may have absconded because of his sex-offender status. McDaniel was last seen walking over the Dunns Creek Bridge near the area where his body was eventually found.

He was convicted in 1991 on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s registered sexual offender database.

“With a turnout like this, I’m beginning to feel we might win tomorrow,” an upbeat Romney told a crowd of several hundred at a stop in Dunedin on Monday as he and Gingrich zipped across the state making their final appeals.

Gingrich, in turn, acknowledged that his momentum had been checked but promised not to back down. He characterized Romney as an imposter, and his team started to plot a strategy for upcoming contests.

“He can bury me for a very short amount of time with four or five or six times as much money,” Gingrich said in a television interview.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is gearing up for a relaunch in Singapore, almost five years after the firm shut down its former office in the region.

The magic circle firm is planning to open the new arm this autumn, with the move expected to be discussed at a meeting of the firm’s partnership council this week.

The new office will focus on arbitration, corporate, projects and energy work, with the firm also looking to use the base as a strategic access point for India.

One Freshfields partner said: “Singapore is being talked about all the time as the firm’s next strategic move. Hong Kong has become a greater China hub and Singapore is becoming the hub of Southeast Asia.

There had been warnings that the original Cabinet Office proposals would result in a big fall in the number of registered voters, especially among existing under-represented groups such as ethnic minorities, those on low incomes and people renting their homes.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 26-year-old Jasen Anchondo was sentenced Tuesday.

He and the child’s mother, 23-year-old Summer Dawn Angelly, both pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse in November.

Authorities say the 11-month-old boy was left in the tub unsupervised Aug. 5 because he had soiled his diaper and the couple had run out of clean ones. They had been living at the motel for weeks after moving to Arizona from California.

Tempe police say the baby was revived with CPR. H

The message in some job advertisements these days is pretty blunt: Don’t bother sending a rsum if you’re not bringing home a paycheck already.

The ads list current or recent employment as an eligibility requirement, a screen to narrow the pool of candidates in a rocky economy that often leads to dozens of applicants for a single job.

A random search of online job listings last year by the National Employment Law Project, a nonprofit advocacy group, found 150 ads nationwide that excluded applicants based on employment status.

A pregnant woman was raped, murdered and her unborn daughter killed in a brutal knife attack in her flat, a jury has heard.

Nikitta Grender, who was due to give birth in two weeks, was sexually assaulted before being stabbed in the neck and stomach by Carl Whant, the court was told. The knife penetrated the body of her child, whom she had already named Kelsey-May.

Newport crown court in south Wales heard that Whant, 27, a nightclub bouncer, then set fire to the bed Grender was lying on in an attempt to cover up his crime.

Whant, who took notes as the prosecution outlined its case, denies rape, murder, child destruction and arson.

Gregg Taylor, prosecuting, said Grender, 19, and her boyfriend Ryan Mayes, 18, had been looking forward to the birth of their child.

Its not all rosy in the city, as one crime stat is on its way up. In 2011 Syracuse Police received 273 calls for shots being fired, up from the prior year. The number of people injured when shots are fired is also up 16%.
